Personal information
Personal data is any information that identifies you as an individual, or could be used to identify you if combined with other sources. I currently collect and process (i.e., use) the following information that counts as personal data:
Names
Contact details
Photographs
Demographics
Collection
Most of the personal information I process is provided to me directly by you.
I collect personal data in the following ways:
Newsletter subscription
Social media connection
Book reviews on retail platforms
Event sign up forms and attendance in person or online
Please be aware that the marketing tools I use also auto-generate audience analysis which may contain personal information. Examples include analysis of the age brackets, gender and geographic location of accounts engaged. This information is presented in aggregated form, but could lead to individual identification if datasets are small.
I take steps to minimise the amount of personal data I collect – e.g., where possible, I avoid taking telephone numbers and postal addresses, and limit event photography and its uses.
Depending on how data is collected, your details are securely held via the relevant platforms that host my newsletter, website, email, events and social media functions.
I do not share your personal information with anyone else.
Use
I collect personal data to enable me to keep you updated on projects and events related to my writing, and to promote my book(s) and events to new audiences (i.e. for marketing purposes).
Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the lawful bases I rely on for processing this information are:
Consent. This is my primary justification. Any information you provide to me directly will only be used in line with your consent. You are able to remove your consent at any time by unsubscribing (newsletter), unfollowing (social media) and/or contacting me by email via liz@liz-amos.com
Legitimate interests. Connecting with you and reviewing the various forms of data analysis provided by my marketing platforms helps me to promote my work and create content that is engaging and more worthwhile. However, I am also required to make sure I balance this goal with your right to privacy.
To the extent that I have control over the information provided to me by these in-built analysis tools, I will always strive to use the information responsibly, minimise the impact on you and promptly refer any questions or concerns on to the relevant tool providers where applicable.
Storage
Your information is securely stored. If you have any queries or concerns about measures taken to ensure the ongoing security of your personal data, please contact me.
If you ask me to delete your personal information, I will always do so promptly.
Otherwise, I will keep your personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to keep in touch about ongoing projects. You will be prompted to consider whether communications are still relevant and appropriate at regular intervals.
Where your personal information is used to promote my work (e.g., reviews and event photography), I will minimise identifying information and periodically review and update/delete content where appropriate.
Your data protection rights
As well as asking me not to contact you, and/or requesting your personal information is removed or deleted, you have other rights under data protection law including:
Right of access - You have the right to ask for copies of your personal information.
Right to rectification - You have the right to ask for inaccurate personal information to be rectified, or incomplete personal information to be updated.
In certain circumstances, you also have:
